In June we saw one of the hottest days of the year in our region and Landscapes Naturally were busy making the most of the great weather, working with several local schools to carry out their Fire Workshops as part of the Learning through Landscapes Local School Nature Grants Program.
These innovative workshops encourage children to get hands on with activities such as baking bread, toasting apples and cooking soup on an open fire, whilst developing their language and literacy skills at the same time.
Felicity Robinson, Director of Landscapes Naturally ,has been delivering ‘Fire Training’ as part of the Learning through Landscapes program across schools in the Midlands and Wales, and feels this workshop provides children with invaluable skills.
She says: “There is nothing like seeing the flames, hearing the sizzles and crackle, smelling the smoke, feeling the textures of twigs and logs, and tasting whatever you have cooked to develop descriptive language.”
